Spring 1 Week 2

This week we have been focusing on birthdays within our theme of Celebrations. we are really enjoying learning about how people celebrate this special occasion and we get to act out being at a party in our role play area.
We have been working hard on developing on independence skills by getting changed by ourselves for PE. We can see that the children have been practicing this as they are very proud when they can do it for themselves. Keep up the great work in the morning and at night.
Next week we are learning about Chinese New Year, if you have any photos, decorations or items of interest for this theme please share.

Spring 1 Week 4

Well what an exciting Science week we have had in Reception. We have learned all about how materials can change, we made some slime, we investigated how using different liquids can change colour and we watched a short film about the planets in the very exciting inflated dome. We were very brave going in as we had to go through a dark tunnel but we were very intrigued as to what was on the inside.
We carried out some of our own experiments in class too. Some of our toys became frozen in blocks of ice and we had to figure out how to set them free and how they might have become frozen in the first place. We also read the story of The Magic Porridge Pot and discussed the ingredients we would need to make it. The children helped make the porridge using oats and water. When it was cooked we added some honey to it. The children devoured it, saying it was delicious. We spoke about how healthy porridge is for us, how the oats give us energy all day long and it helps our brain to stay awake. We enjoyed it so much that the children thought it would be a great idea to have it for breakfast at home before we come to school.
We are looking forward to our break for lots of play outside in the fresh air, eating lots of healthy food and getting lots of sleep. I hope you all have a lovely restful break and see you on the 5th of February.
